Dr. Bob:
Fifteen months later, I
wanted to thank you for the help you've provided. In fact, my
entire family (including my 4 kids under 6) thanks you. Let me
remind you of my story:
I am about to turn 35
years old. I am a 6' 7" former college varsity basketball player
who developed serious back trouble while in college. When I was 21,
I ruptured my lumbar 4/5 disc, and had to have a laminectomy
operation. Given my relatively young age, I was able to come back
the following season and play, but my lower back would never be the
same. In the ensuing years, I managed well, but starting in my late
20's, I began having recurring trouble. I was constantly throwing
out my back, and having to spend 3 and 4 days on a bed with muscle
relaxants. In the 12 months prior to seeing you, I threw my back
out 4 times, the last one requiring a full two weeks recovery.
Things were spiraling the wrong way.
I had tried physical
therapy, constant stretching, and muscle relaxants. All were
temporarily helpful, but could not sustain a long period. A number
of friends suggested chiropractic care, but like lots of people, I
was very skeptical. In fact, when I had the initial trouble at
age 21, I had a bad experience with a chiropractor. A very close
friend recommended that I see you, and you'll remember my initial
reticence two Augusts ago.
Again, it's 15 months
later, and although I still have lower back pain periodically, I
haven't felt better than this in 8 years! You started me on
adjustments followed by electrical stimulation every 2 weeks. We
extended that to 3 weeks, and as needed as things progressed.
Thanks again for
opening up the possibilities: I had given up tennis, and I will be
playing for the second time in 5 years tomorrow. I had also given
up basketball, but may try to get back into the game in about 6
months or so.
