Chiropractic
Adjustment
The Chiropractic
adjustment is the use of a specific force in a precise direction,
applied to a joint that is fixated, "locked up", or not moving properly.
The result is the return of the bones to a more normal position or
motion. Adjustments help normalize spinal function and avoid bone
and soft tissue degeneration.Lumbar
Flexion/Distraction
Flexion/distraction
manipulation is a treatment developed by James M. Cox. It is often used
for lumbar disc injuries (herniation, bulges, etc.), and for other low
back and lower extremity radicular conditions. The technique involves
the use of a specialized table which allows for passive distraction,
flexion, lateral bending, and rotation. These different planes of motion,
allow for reduction of symptoms attributable to lumbar disc syndromes.
Interferential
Electro-Therapy
Interferential
therapy is therapeutic treatment to aid in the relief of pain and the
promotion of soft tissue healing. Tiny amounts of electrical
impulses are induced into the tissues in the vicinity of the injury.
This prompts the body to secrete endorphins and other natural pain
killers to help relieve pain.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound is
therapeutic treatment using high frequency sound waves administered in
the region of soft tissue injuries. Sound vibrations, as fast as a
million times per second, penetrate the tissues deep in the body,
creating a heat response. These vibrations and heat help break
down and disperse unhealthy calcium and other hard tissue accumulations.
Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy is a
term that describes the application of ice, cold towels, ice massage and
compresses to reduce the temperature of tissues directly on or below the
surface of the skin. Surface cooling constricts blood vessels,
numbs painful areas, and helps relax muscle spasms. Cold
temperatures reduce nerve transmission of painful symptoms and provide
temporary relief.
Superficial Heat
Hot packs, warm
moist towels, heating pads and infrared lamps are often used to help
raise the temperature of soft tissues directly below the surface of the
skin. Heat applied to the surface of the skin enlarges blood
vessels below the surface, relaxing tissues and can temporarily relieve
painful symptoms. Increasing circulation and relaxing muscles is
helpful before or after chiropractic adjustments
Surface Electromyography
(SEMG)
Surface
Electromyography is a device which measures the amount of electrical
activity your muscles release when they are contracting, more commonly
known as muscle tension. It is similar in function to an EKG which
measures heart muscle activity. Muscles have a tendency to "brace"
in response to spinal misalignments known as Vertebral Subluxations.
When Vertebral Subluxations are present, the nervous systrem is
negatively effected resulting in increases or decreases in muscle
activity. The SEMG shows the muscular component of the Vertebral
Subluxations.
The computerized spinal
exam is used to evaluate the related levels of electrical activity
associated with Vertebral Subluxations and provides qualitative and
quantitative data to assist in diagnosis.
Custom Orthotics
Spinal Pelvic
Stabilizer Orthotics were developed by chiropractors for chiropractors
and their patients to enhance the holding power of the spinal
adjustment. They are designed to provide a functional foundation
for the foot which is placed into a shoe and forced to impact on hard
surfaces. Placing the foot into a shoe is like putting a foot into
a cast! Putting the foot into a shoe and adding a rigid or
semi-rigid orthotic (like most Podiatrists use) can add insult to
injury. We treat the whole body as a group of integrated and
interrelated components which are not separate. We treat the foot
as the foundation for the pelvis and spine, not as a separate entity.
We use flexible Spinal Pelvic Stabilizing Orthotics.
